Vacancy consists of an ensemble of variously shaped volumes, into each of which texts quoting plots of films starring women as the doubtful main characters have been milled.
The visual composition follows the basic shape of a wave, typifying the lowest common denominator in information transfer. The subdivided front face of the wall installation appears to run freely throughout the exhibitions space in front of the dark wall, representing a cut through in information flow, exposing a moment.
Generally speaking, information transfers are structured by blank spaces, vacancies, though the meaning here is left rather vague: the tolerance of depth, the direction and changes in contour cut by the milling machine shifts the texts’ semantics depending on the viewing position and angle of light.
Vacancy is dedicated to the representation of textual space as a moment of suspense. This moment is a possible turning point. Similar to Amor Omnia, the work stands as a subject for a creative attitude: one that rejects schemes of presentations – seen here as language-based imperatives – or directive approach to fixed interpretations.
